PLEASE WELCOME MELISSA MAIKOS & BROOKE KELLEY You have been seeing both of our new teachers on your TV for the past two years as part of the WTOC - Big Red 11 Team. Now, you will see them both in the classroom at Memorial Day and on our athletic fields. Melissa Maikos will be teaching History and English in our Middle School Academy while taking on the additional responsibilities of being our Lady Matador Varsity Softball Head Coach. Melissa is no stranger to the Softball Diamond as a former player, scholarship player and Captain of the Lady Eagles of Boston College. "Melissa brings immediate credibility to our Lady Matadors program. She has been there and done that. Melissa will take our Lady Matadors Softball team to the level we have always hoped to attain," commented Mr. Sussman our Athletic Director. Brooke Kelley is no stranger to Memorial Day either. As a reporter for WTOC, Brooke focused on education and was a frequent visitor to our campus. Mrs. Kelley will be teaching upper school English. She is an Honor Graduate of Loyola University in Chicago and has just about completed her masters program in English. Coach Kelley is anxious to get started coaching our Cross Country team (she is an avid runner and has completed six Chicago Marathons). Come the spring, Coach Kelley will head up our Lady Matador Soccer team. |

MEMORIAL DAY SCHOOL ACCREDITED WITH QUALITY Memorial Day School admits students of any race, color, and national or ethnic origin.
COME SEE WHAT'S HAPPENING................. There is certainly a lot going on at MDS this summer. If you want to drop by and see Mr. Lackey...don't look in his old office. We have almost completed some of the exciting changes for the upcoming school year. High School students will now be in the "middle school wing" while the middle school will be in the "high school" wing. Guess it is time for a wing name change. We have added some additional class room space and it is all going quite well. Come by and take a look. OH....if you are looking for Mr. Lackey - well, his new office is right next door to Mr. Sussman's office. BUT, Mr. Sussman has moved his office as well. Come see for yourself.
GET ON BOARD.... DRIVE OUR BUS !
We are in need of CDL drivers to drive to athletic events and field trips. If this is something you might be interested in, please contact Mr. Sussman at 912.352.4535 ext. 211.
DON'T FORGET....WE EARN DOLLARS FROM YOUR GROCERY SHOPPING. Everytime you visit your local Kroger or Publix store, Memorial Day could earn lots of money. You can contribute to our school without spending a dime more than you would have. Just use your Kroger Committment card or your PUBLIX PARTNERS CARD. If you need some more cards. please contact Mrs. Horton or Mrs. Willcoxon

TEE IT UP !!
School is almost ready to begin so that can only mean one thing - it is time for our 14th Annual Matador Golf Tournament. This year, we move our event to the beautiful Black Creek Golf Club. We will tee off at 1:00 PM on Monday, August 24. Players will receive a registration goody bag along with a lunch before they take off to play 18. On the course, complimentary beverages are served all afternoon until the players return to the clubhouse to enjoy a wonderful dinner during our awards ceremony. Every player will be eligible to win great door prizes and some lucky player could win $25,000.00 in our hole-in-one contest. This year, we are offering a "Stimulus Package" to all golfers and corporate sponsors by lowering our player fee to $100. Please call the athletic office if you would like to play, sponsor a team, or can help us with door prizes and gifts.

BOOK BUY BACK & UNIFORM SALE We will once again sponsor this event on Saturday, July 11th from 10:00 AM – Noon. Here is how it will work. Between now and July 10th – bring your used text books to the school. We will give you an envelope to put some information we need: on it: YOUR NAME YOUR CLASS YOUR ASKING PRICE FOR THE BOOK. We will have a list of suggested buy back prices from MBS so we can help you decide your asking price. Generally, MBS will give us a price for a “better” (little wear and tear and no writing inside; “good” (some signs of wear), and “used” (if the book is worn out and has writing in it). On Saturday, July 11 – we will open the cafeteria to parents looking to purchase used books for their students. You will receive your class schedule prior to that day or we will have them at the event. We will have administrators and volunteers on hand to help you with your scheduling and selection of books. NO BOOKS WILL BE ACCEPTED ON THE DAY OF THE EVENT. During this time, you will also be able to look through the collection of school uniforms that have been donated back to the school and you will be able to purchase these at substantial savings over new items. The only change planned from this year’s sale from last year’s sale is that ALL SALES RECEIPTS need to be picked up by NOON. We do not want to hold money and or left over non-sold books past July 11th.
KATHY AKCAKANAT JOINS THE MEMORIAL FAMILY No stranger to the Memorial campus, Mrs. Akcakant will be our new Art Instructor and Yearbook Advisor. Mrs."A" has two children that attend Memorial, Emre and Bailey. If you want to see the kind of impact Mrs. Akcakant will have on our students - stop by anytime and see some of her handywork that she has already done in her art room. And, while your there - you can ask her how to pronounce AKCAKANAT !!
